A worldly beat resonates through the skies and highlands of Kuju
When Tao was searching for a new base in Kyushu shortly after its formation in central Japan , it was the friendly people of Kuju who kindly reached out their hands and invited Tao to stay. On that occasion, Tao made several pledges to the people of Kuju, one of which was holding an international music festival in the town one day.
Kuju is a cozy town with warm-hearted people where one can enjoy the majestic nature of the Aso Kuju National Park . For Tao, the city provides not only a peaceful practice and living environment but also deep inspiration that fuels the creation of original Tao songs and shows. Thanks to its encounter with Kuju, Tao could also discover the true ‘beat of the globe' that runs through wadaiko drumming as well as other drumming traditions of the world ? a beat truly unconstrained and free of all national boundaries.
In the year 2002, the rapidly developing Tao could finally deliver on one of its greatest promises: ‘The International Music Festival of Kuju - Beat of the Globe' was held for the first time. While Tao headlined the event and supplied its vision, the festival received strong support from the local Kuju society. Utilizing Tao's international network, a diverse group of foreign artists was invited to paint the vast skies of Kuju in blazing musical colors. It is expected that this grandiose festival that brings together the great nature of Kuju and worldly beats to resonate together will grow into a new yearly tradition and symbol of the region. |
